Hi everyone. This is Kadir, we are
back again in another podcast. In my first podcast, I have introduced you my
hometown Çanakkale. In this episod, I want to introduce some historical places in Çanakkale. Please don’t say, “Why now the boring history”, but this one is so
famous and renowned by all over the world. First let me ask, do you love
history? I love reading history and visiting places. Do you want to know which
place is it? It is Troy one of the most famous city and legend in the history.
Troy is a city which has existed over 4.000 years and known as the center of
ancient civilizations. For many years people believed that it was the city
mentioned only in the tales and never existed until it was first found in the
19th century. Troy (Truva in Turkish) is located in Hisarlik near Çanakkale province where the straits join with the Aegean Sea. Troy is famous for
several reasons. It is a site that was continually occupied from the early
Bronze Age to early Byzantine times. It is also associated with the sagas of
the Trojan War written by Homer in “the Iliad and Odyssey” which is well-known
in English literature. Homer immortalized Troy in his stories of King Priam,
Hector, Paris and the beautiful Helen. A symbolic wooden Trojan horse
commemorates the legendary war. That is all for today, we will continue this

Hi.
This is Kadir. Welcome to my podcast. Today I want to introduce my hometown in
my podcast. First of all let me ask, do you love to wonder around the world? I
love to visit historical and natural places. My hometown is Çanakkale, northwestern Turkey, at
the mouth of Koca River (the ancient Rhodius River), on the Asian side of the
Dardanelles. Originally a 15th-century Ottoman fortress called Kale-i
Sultaniye, it had by the 18th century developed a reputation for its pottery,
whence its name (Turkish çanak, "pot," and kale, "fortress"). The pottery
industry reached its peak in the 18th and 19th centuries and has now declined;
but the city has become one of the chief centers of the Turkish fish-canning
industry. Çanakkale is another city which combines Asian part of Turkey to Europe;
Dardanelles- the famous narrow sound separating Europe from Asia. That is the
most green and beautiful city. Idol of all the contemporary youth, George
Byron, commonly known as Lord Byron, was English poet, swam across Dardanelles
in 1809. For that time, this was an outstanding achievement even for
professionals. Till his death, Byron was proud of this conduct not less than he
was proud of his best poem “Harold the Child”. Nowadays, a ferry crosses Dardanelles
once per hour, just enough time to go the upper deck and spin a cup of tea.
Drink your tea and look at the formidable waves below and at the sky above.
